The currently busy Neil Druckmann recently dropped some information about Naughty Dog’s future plans.

Riding on the impressive success of the series The Last of Us, BuzzFeed interviewed the studio co-head to learn more about his behind the scenes. The media took the opportunity to pull the cordyceps from his nose on what awaits us in terms of games.

Nathan Drake is truly retiring

Let’s start with the bad but expected news: there will normally be no future adventures for Nathan Drake. WhileUncharted 4 closed the series in apotheosis, with record sales figures, Naughty Dog felt that this license had found a satisfactory conclusion there.

Neil Druckmann takes advantage of the interview to thank Sony as publisher: ” They supported us all the way and encouraged us to follow our passions. Because something is successful, people think Sony is pressuring us to develop a sequel. It’s not, and we’re really lucky to have Sony as a publisher, funding our games and supporting us. »

The rumors that Uncharted would be entitled to a reboot do not seem to fit with Naughty Dog’s desire to move on. Cassie, Nate’s daughter, could one day take up the torch, but it seems very unlikely for the moment.

It’s not the last of the games The Last of Us

License The Last of Us, meanwhile, should be the focus of Naughty Dog’s attention. In the more or less near future, we are indeed expecting the famous multiplayer spin-off. Neil Druckmann has also shared some information about this project for the moment nebulous.

Thus, this full-fledged multiplayer title should be playable in co-op with a friend, in games that should presumably involve player versus player, but also player versus environment. Like solo games where we are always accompanied, the duo of players should have trouble with rival factions and infected.

Finally, Neil Druckmann confided in the potential release of a The Last of Us Part III, asked loudly by fans. ” Like what we did for Part II, if we have a compelling story to tell that carries this universal message about love, then we will expand on that story. »

In view of the end of Part II leaving many screenplay doors open, let’s hope that Naughty Dog will have enough elements to write such a story. But that means that a possible The Last of Us Part III is far from out. Like the previous episodes, should we expect to see it arrive at the end of the PS5 generation? The bets are open.
