For an unexplained cause, a 72-year-old German got off the road in the Schmittentunnel (Zell am See) on Monday and hit the tunnel wall head-on. The emergency doctor was then only able to determine the death of the man.

On Monday afternoon, a fatal traffic accident occurred in Zell am See, more precisely on the B311 in the Schmittentunnel. A 72-year-old German citizen was driving his car in the tunnel towards Bruck. At the end of the acceleration lane on the Schüttdorf Nord driveway, the vehicle came off the right of the lane for an unexplained cause and then hit the tunnel wall there head-on.

The driver of the accident was rescued from the severely damaged vehicle by the emergency services that had been alerted. However, the emergency doctor could only determine the death of the 72-year-old. The Schmittentunnel had to be temporarily closed for both directions of travel. The Zell am See and Maishofen fire brigade and the Red Cross were in action.
