Vaccination would reduce the risk of PIMS, this post-Covid syndrome that affects children

Vaccination against Covid-19 is said to reduce the risk of pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome (PIMS). This is what BFMTV reveals, according to a study by the Groupe Francophone de Réanimation et d’Urgences Pédiatriques (GFRUP), carried out by doctors from the Robert-Debré AP-HP hospital and the University of Paris, they – even commissioned by the Ministry of Health and Solidarity.

Pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome is a rare disease causing heart problems in children and very young adults. Resembling Kawasaki disease, it almost certainly causes fever for several days, gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea) and cardiovascular system, and rash. This syndrome can appear about a month after a Covid infection.

To carry out this study, the doctors relied on the 41 pediatric intensive care units in France as well as the cases of PIMS in adolescents 12 years of age and over declared to Public Health France. Of all these patients, 33 were over 12 years of age and were therefore eligible for vaccination, 26 of them were not vaccinated and 7 had received a dose of vaccine. Scientists, however, admit the limitation of the small number of patients. It will be necessary to wait for the opening of vaccination to children aged 5 to 11 years to collect more data.
