Christmas represents the convivial moment par excellence. So what’s better than an aperitif on New Year’s Eve to bring the family together? To create a sensation, the influencer Marie Food Tips shared, on Instagram, a crown of brie puff pastry, accompanied by bacon and caramelized onions. This super tasty recipe requires only basic ingredients. “And the list is short“, she promises us.

The recipe for puff pastry brie crown

The cheese is runny, the bacon is slightly crispy and I like to add a delicious homemade onion confit: believe me, your guests will love it!“, assures Marie.

The list of ingredients for 6 people:

  • 2 onions
  • 10 g of unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
  • 2 small tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of red wine
  • 100g sliced bacon
  • 2 puff pastries 560 g in total
  • 200 g of Brie
  • 1 egg yolk
  • fresh chives

The steps of the recipe:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut the onions in half, then into thin slices. Place them in a hot pan over medium heat with the butter, and cook for 10 minutes, stirring.
  • Add the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar, and cook for an additional 5 minutes over high heat.
  • Deglaze with the red wine, then cover and reduce the heat to medium low. Leave to cook for 25 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in another pan, brown the bacon slices for 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  • Line a large baking tray with a sheet of baking paper. Unroll the puff pastry, cut each into 8 equal pieces and place them on the baking paper forming a sun pattern – the bases of each piece should overlap and the tips should point outwards.
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C. Spread the onion confit on the base of the triangles and cover with crumbled bacon and pieces of brie.
  • Using your hands, roll the inside edges of the circle a little, then fold in the tips of the triangles and press with your fingers to seal them perfectly.
  • In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk and brush your crown with it. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh chives and enjoy!

All the tips for making this recipe like a chef

This puff pastry crown recipe remains relatively simple. However, any advice is worth taking to be sure of the result. And Marie Food Tips has tons! The cooking enthusiast first recommends take the ingredients out of the fridge at the last minute. For seasoning, a pinch of salt is enough because remember that bacon is, most of the time, quite salty. When folding, make sure to fold the tips of the triangles towards the inside of the circle and press with your fingers to seal them perfectly – be careful, if they are not sealed correctly, they may not keep their shape during cooking.
