Are you tired of finishing Christmas dinner with a swollen stomach and bloating? A nutritionist reveals 2 ideas for “good desserts for the holidays” to replace the traditional pastry log. They are lighter and less caloric!

We quickly ordered a pastry log for dessert at holiday meals, however, it is far from being the best option according to Dr. Jean Michel Cohen, nutritionist. In a video shared on his Instagram account, the nutrition expert recalls that these kinds of cakes are nothing other than “sponge cakes with custard and buttercream on top” very high in calories and poorly digestible. According to him, the traditional Christmas log is even “really the cake that ends meals badly”, especially the ultra-copious holiday meals like we eat at Christmas or on New Year’s Eve.

To avoid indigestion, the nutritionist gives us some suggestions for “good dessert for holiday meals”. The first very good news is that you won’t necessarily have to deprive yourself of a piece of Christmas log! Indeed, among Dr. Cohen’s favorite options, we find… the frozen log ! As for the other Christmas dessert that the doctor loves, we don’t think about it at first, but it can lighten up our holiday meal straight away. “You will see that it is really good”assures the nutritionist.

Christmas log: 2 lighter and more digestible alternatives to finish holiday meals

  • The frozen log: composed of ice creams or sorbets depending on whether it has a chocolate, coffee, vanilla or fruit flavor, the frozen log takes on the appearance of the traditional dessert but is much lighter, in the mouth, as in terms of calories by the way. A very good idea to limit the consumption of saturated fats when you are already eating a hearty meal.
  • Norwegian omelette : also composed of a sponge cake, it is a dessert made from vanilla ice cream and meringue which offers a Christmas dessert frozen on the inside and hot on the outside which creates a more surprising contrast. Much lighter than a pastry log, it’s an idea that changes from the desserts we usually eat at the end of the Christmas meal.
