here is the worst chocolate to eat for your health, according to a nutritionist

We often hear that chocolate is a healthy food when enjoyed in moderation, but this is not the case for this very popular type of chocolate that you are likely to eat at Easter. Explanations with nutritionist Raphaël Gruman.

Its tasting is sometimes controversial during a diet, but it is nevertheless good for health in certain aspects: chocolate is one of the favorite gourmet foods of the French who consume it regularly*. If chocolate sales increase at Christmas and during Valentine’s Day, this is also the case during the Easter weekend when we tend to exceed the maximum quantity of chocolate to eat per day and where we is exposed to a little-known health risk due to this excess.

Among the delicacies that we look for during the traditional chocolate egg hunt, there is obviously the best chocolate for your health, but sometimes also the worst chocolate for your body, as the nutritionist points out. Raphael Gruman. During an interview with aufeminin, the expert, in fact, warned us against an abuse of language which leads to confusion and sometimes makes us choose the most unhealthy treat for us at Easter:White chocolate”Who “isn’t even chocolate” according to the expert.

White chocolate: a fake chocolate

Even if it is made with cocoa butter like dark chocolate and milk chocolate which have benefits for our health (in addition to being pleasant to chew), white chocolate does not contain the ingredient which makes up the very essence of chocolate: cocoa paste, extracted from the cocoa bean and which gives its characteristic taste to chocolate. “It’s not even called chocolate, there’s nothing chocolate in it”thus recalls the nutritionist, who testifies to a distortion of language.

“It’s more of a kind of treat.” says Raphaël Gruman, who assures that this particular type of “chocolate” has “no nutritional benefit”, unlike others which may contain antioxidants good for the body, and even energizing and morale-boosting substances which act as anti-stress.

Here’s why white chocolate isn’t good for your health

If the difference between white chocolate and dark chocolates and milk chocolates is so important, it is because it directly impacts its nutritional composition. “White chocolate will be quite fatty and sweet”, underlines the nutritionist, who reminded us that it is in particular the sugar content of chocolate that we must refer to to know if it is a healthier food or not. To obtain white chocolate, cocoa butter is, in fact, mixed with milk and sugar.

In the white chocolates you taste at Easter, “there is only fat and aroma, and above all a lot of sugar” insists the nutritionist, who wants to warn against overindulging in this chocolate which can drastically increase your sugar intake for the day, even when eaten in small quantities. You must therefore be even more vigilant with your consumption of white chocolate than with any other milk or dark chocolate.

The amount of white chocolate not to exceed per day for health

If the nutritionist recommends not eating more than 4 squares of lightly sweetened dark chocolate per day, this maximum quantity of chocolate is not at all suitable for white chocolate, which is much fattier and super sweet. On average, white chocolate contains around 60g of sugar and 30g of fat, compared to 50g of sugar and 30g of fat in milk chocolate in equal quantities**.

Knowing that the nutritionist recommends not eating more than 2 squares of milk chocolate per day for health, even though it is a less sweet chocolate than white chocolate, we should therefore not eat more than one square to one square and a half of white chocolate only per day to avoid excess sugar on a daily basis, but also excess fat. Jacques Xie, a nutrition coach, indirectly confirmed this by revealing the quantity of white chocolate that makes us exceed our daily sugar quota for health, namely 4 squares of white chocolate only. A number to remember for the Easter weekend!
