The prosecution did not have more details on the circumstances of the discovery on Sunday evening, nor any identification of the victim. “The state of the body does not allow it,” Guirec Le Bras, the Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor, told AFP.
“Stayed a long time in the water”
It is still too early to say whether or not this body is that of a migrant, according to the prosecutor. “Given the condition, we can assume that it was in the water for a long time,” said Guirec Le Bras. An investigation is underway to try to identify the body and establish the circumstances of the death. Several migrants trying to cross the Channel to reach England have disappeared at sea in recent weeks.
On November 24, the sinking of a makeshift boat in the English Channel caused the death of 27 migrants. One of the two survivors had counted 33 people on board at the start, suggesting the disappearance at sea of four other migrants.
