Premier League wants vaccination success
If the rate rises, there will be easing for professionals
In the Premier League, more professionals are to be vaccinated, then there will also be easing for the footballers. This is announced by the largest soccer league in the world. Every fifth professional is not yet fully vaccinated. If nothing changes, the restrictions for the protagonists remain in effect.
The English Premier League only wants to relax its corona rules for footballers and clubs when 85 percent of the players are fully vaccinated. The British news agency PA reported, citing information from the league for the club doctors. As the Premier League announced in the previous week, 68 percent of the players have received both vaccinations necessary for full protection, 81 percent have been vaccinated once. This roughly corresponds to the numbers in the 18- to 39-year-old age group in Great Britain. However, the league is still well behind the national average for the UK, where of those over 12, 86 percent received the first dose and 78.9 percent received both doses.
The league does not want to determine the exact future distance and hygiene rules until the development of new infections over the winter is known. The measures have been in place for 18 months. The Premier League usually reports weekly corona infections among players and coaches in the single digits.
The willingness of professional footballers to be vaccinated is currently not as big an issue in England as it is in Germany, where national player Joshua Kimmich is being discussed. However, several England internationals had recently refused to make their vaccination status public, fueling rumors that they would not be vaccinated. The Irish international Callum Robinson from the second division West Bromwich Albion decided against a vaccination, although he has been infected with the virus twice so far.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said he doesn’t understand why the players don’t want to be vaccinated. He said 99 percent of Liverpool players are vaccinated and he doesn’t need to convince anyone to get vaccinated. After Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante tested positive for the virus, Chelsea’s German coach Thomas Tuchel said he would continue to treat his players like “adults” and not force them to be vaccinated.
