Tom Holland Tells Girlfriend He’s Joined The Army

Exclusive: A new Cherry video clip shows Tom Holland surprising his girlfriend, played by Ciara Bravo, by revealing he’s joined the army.

In an exclusive clip from Cherry ahead of its AppleTV+ release, Tom Holland surprises girlfriend Ciara Bravo by revealing he’s joined the army. Holland’s latest starring vehicle sees him teaming up with Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Based on the book by by Nico Walker, Cherry tells the tale of a young man who falls in love, joins the army, suffers PTSD as a result of the horrors he witnesses while serving, becomes an addict and resorts to robbing banks to fund his habit.

Released in theaters on February 26 for a limited run, Cherry debuts on the Apple TV+ streaming service on Friday, March 12. Reviews for the movie have been mixed. Holland and Bravo have been praised for their strong performances, but many have criticized the average script and familiar addiction drama storyline. Much like his 2020 Netflix film The Devil All The Time, Holland seems to have elevated the material, proving once again just how much of an engaging on-screen presence he is, whether he’s having fun as Spider-Man, or taking a more serious dramatic turn as he does in Cherry.

Now, in an exclusive clip from Cherry, Holland and Bravo show off their strong performances as Cherry and his girlfriend, Emily, respectively. The touching and emotional clip begins with Cherry shocking Emily by telling her he’s joined the army. The couple then discusses their plans for the future, before committing to each other, with Cherry saying to Emily: “You’re it for me.” The scene is at once touching and heartbreaking, as the young couple naively look forward to a future that is unlikely to turn out the way they want it to. You can watch the clip below:

The scene is a pivotal one in Cherry, setting up the next phase of the main character’s life, revealing the reason he chose to join the army in the first place, and showing the cracks in his seemingly perfect life with Emily. For those who haven’t already read the Cherry movie script, which is available online, this scene provides some context for the action seen in the trailers, which show Cherry taking part in action in the Middle-East, before returning home to a changed world as a changed man.

Author Walker wrote the book as a lightly fictionalized version of his own life. He wrote the book and even negotiated the film rights while he was in prison, serving time for the bank robberies he committed to sustain his addiction. Audiences will find out just how the events that inspired Cherry took place when it releases on Apple TV+ this Friday, March 12.
